Types of special needs vary in severity. People with autism, Down syndrome, dyslexia, blindness, ADHD, or cystic fibrosis, for example, may be considered to have special needs. However, special needs can also include cleft lips, or missing limbs.

How We Help
We work individually with each family to
understand their specific needs
Every child is different, so we take the time to get to know your child personally. We will meet with your child individually and design a plan specifically geared to suit your child’s individual strengths and weaknesses, providing them the structure and support they need to learn best. This impact can carry on into the rest of their life, as these fundamental skills can be applied to anything you want to learn.
Academic performance can suffer as a result of deficits in perception, cognition and emotions, impacting your child’s confidence. For children who struggle to learn, finding effective intervention can be a challenge. We have developed tools to turn cognitive and perceptual weaknesses into strengths that support independent learning. Unlike tutoring, our approach is individualized and involves intensive one-on-one mediated learning.
Both local and online Group Classes are comprised of 4-6 students. We believe in keeping your child in the Zone of Proximal Development – we meet them where they are, help them achieve success, and never overload them. Classes also include Rx for Reading and Rx for Math, remedial programs that enable your child with the tools they need to learn both important subjects. Julie is also NILD Certified to conduct educational therapy via Zoom, transforming your home into a functional classroom.

We are a non-profit organization. Our goal is to provide every individual with special needs the support, friendship and inclusion that they deserve.
The term Special Needs is a short form of Special Education Needs and is a way to refer to students with disabilities. The term Special Needs in the education setting comes into play whenever a child’s education program is officially altered from what would normally be provided.
More narrowly, it is a legal term applying in foster care in the United States, derived from the language in the Adoption and Safe Families Act. It is a diagnosis used to classify children as needing “more” services than those children without special needs who are in foster care.
In the United States, special needs is a term used in clinical diagnostic and functional development to describe individuals who require assistance for disabilities that may be medical, or psychological. For instance, the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
